Introduction

The concept of employee engagement in human resources refers to how enthusiastic and committed an employee is about their work. Employees that are engaged feel that their efforts matter and are concerned about both the company's performance and their job. An engaged worker is motivated by more than just a wage and may see their own happiness as a direct result of their output and a crucial component of their organization's success.

Understanding Employee Engagement

Since that employee engagement is directly related to job happiness and morale, it can be quite important to a business's success. An essential component of developing and sustaining employee engagement is communication. Employee engagement increases the likelihood of improved performance and productivity. They frequently show a stronger dedication to the principles and objectives of an organization.

TIM SMITH (2023) Employers can encourage employee engagement in many ways, including communicating expectations clearly, offering rewards and promotions for excellent work, keeping employees informed about the company's performance, and providing regular feedback. Other strategies include making efforts to make employees feel valued and respected, and feeling that their ideas are being heard and understood.

Drivers of engagement

According to Melanie Garaffa (2024) Employee engagement can be physical, emotional, and/or cognitive.

·   Physical engagement is based on the amount of exertion an employee puts into their job. Physically engaged employees view work as a source of energy.

·  Emotionally engaged employees have a positive job outlook and are passionate about their work.

·  Cognitively engaged employees devote more attention to their work and are absorbed in their job.

Role of HR in employee engagement

Jordan Nottrodt (2023) HR professionals create employee engagement initiatives for managers to help foster engagement for their teams. In other words, HR is essential in employee engagement.

Here are the core functions of HR that directly impact employee engagement.
